Three copies of a typed transcription of Kerr's journal; a list of the contents of the John Kerr papers in the Western Reserve Historical Society collections; and a cover sheet written by Edgar Harlan. The journal offers descriptions of towns, villages and settlements along Kerr's route.

Kerr was born in County Tyrone, Ireland and educated at the University of Dublin. He came to the U.S. in 1788 and was naturalized in 1798. In 1800 he toured from Pittsburgh to Kenhawa, Virginia and kept a journal of the trip. He was one of four proprietors of the town plat of Columbus, Ohio and served as the town's mayor from 1818-1819.
